Homemade Whole Wheat Tortillas

Why I like this:

Simple ingredients, and simple to make!

These are easy to make - the hardest part was not getting bored while kneading the dough (I turned up my music, sang along loudly, and the time flew by, plus the act of kneading dough is pretty therapeutic!). Use these to make “Easy Homemade Whole Grain Chips” - see recipe under Recipe tab.

Homemade Whole Wheat Tortillas

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

2 Tbs. olive oil

1/2 cup plus 3 Tbs. WARM water.

Steps:

1) In a medium sized bowl, mix dry ingredients well.

2) Mix in the olive oil.

3) Add the warm water gradually, adding more water if needed by tablespoons until you can form a ball of dough.

4) Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes. Cover and set aside for 15 minutes.

5) Shape into approximately 8-10 balls of dough and roll out each ball on a floured surface until very thin (almost to crepe-like thinness).

6) Heat in a cast iron skillet over medium heat for approximately 30 seconds each side - until you see bubbles start to form.

Use immediately or freeze (wrap individually in wax paper and put in an airtight container).
